ABOUT BILL MOFFITT

Bill Moffitt’s love of cinema started when he was about 17 years old, becoming interested in the Lyric Theatre at Granity. He was involved over the years as a qualified projectionist and had shown films at the Lyric Theatre, Victoria Theatre, Westport and the St James Theatre. Bill also did a great deal to improve the sound system at the St James.

Bill also maintained a theatrette at the rear of his section containing vintage film projection and sound equipment, which he restored piece by piece to perfect condition, achieving national recognition on television. He was passionately concerned with quality and excellence and as a technician he loved precision and well made things and believed in going right back to basics with restoration.

Bill received a Buller Civic Award for Outstanding Service to the community.

Bill gave over 40 years service to the cinema industry and passed away on the 19th November 1999.
